Between 25 - 26 April 2024, the YES Forum participated in the Social Work Conference in Brugges, organised by the Belgian presidency of the Council of Europe. The network was represented the Board member Andreas Koth (Internationaler Bund, Germany). The event provided valuable insights into the emerging trends and challenges in social work across Europe.
Key Takeaways
One of the primary observations from the conference was the profound social impact of climate change, digitalisation, and migration. These issues underscore the need for a more holistic approach to social work. As these challenges evolve, the strategies and methodologies in social work must adapt accordingly.
Since the launch of the European Union’s Social Pillar of Social Rights, there has been a noticeable shift in the approach to social work. However, much remains to be done. To effectively address these ongoing challenges, there is a significant demand for upskilling social workers and educational staff. Additionally, raising awareness among policymakers at local, regional, national, and European levels is crucial.
Learning and Networking
The Social Work Conference was an excellent opportunity to listen to academic perspectives and learn about diverse experiences from different European member states. The event facilitated networking and the exchange of experiences among professionals in the field. This collective dialogue is essential for jointly envisioning and building a fairer and more inclusive European Union, where no one is left behind.
Moving Forward
As we look to the future, the insights gained from the conference will be instrumental in shaping our approach at YES Forum. By continuing to engage with stakeholders and advocate for comprehensive policy changes, we aim to contribute to a more equitable and inclusive society.
