The VOICE project is close to its end. Through its implementation, the project partners have gained much valuable learning about the use of the photovoice method in European youth and social work. They have produced useful material for students, professionals and policymakers to share that knowledge beyond the partnership: a video tutorial, a handbook with training resources, exhibitions and a policy brief.

The content is based on the hands-on approach employed during the project. Young students and youth & social workers from Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands were trained to become Photovoice facilitators in May and July 2022. The method explained step-by-step in the handbook, was applied in the trainings. On the other hand, the workshops were used to create a video tutorial on the research method and to gatherrecommendations for policymakers, education institutions and organisations.

The trainings followed a “learning-by-doing” approach: participants were trained to become photovoice facilitators by experiencing the process themselves. The results produced during the workshops have been turned into two exhibitions. They showcase how effective Photovoice is in facilitating self- and collective expression, and what kind of authentic and impactful outcomes it can lead to.

All the materials are now available in four languages (English, Bulgarian, German, Dutch and Italian) thanks to the collaboration between social and youth work organisations and the creative partners from Bulgaria, Germany, Austria, Italy and the Netherlands.
